Women set for eSports Cycling Series debut

Super League Triathlon’s virtual race series continues on Zwift this Tuesday June 16 (7pm BST) with top female athletes Lucy Charles-Barclay, Emma Pallant, Helen Jenkins and Sophie Coldwell among the roster taking part.

Tuesday’s race will be the first time women have taken on Super League Traithlon’s eSports Cycling Series racing the 2019 UCI Worlds Harrogate Circuit.

Prize money will be allocated for the top three riders across the line in every race.

Some of triathlon’s biggest names, including Alistair Brownlee, Vincent Luis and Marten Van Riel raced London’s virtual circuit last week with Australian David Manwaring beating Leo Bergere on the line with a stunning sprint finish.

Emma Pallant said:

“I only joined Zwift during lockdown. It is one of those platforms that is a skill in itself where to be better at it you have to race it.
“I have really enjoyed being part of it. It really hurts, but I have had loads of fun so far.
“ I have been racing quite a bit against Sophie Coldwell and she is one to watch on the sprint finishes, so I am definitely going to try and keep with her.

All races start at 7pm (BST) with the men racing on Thursday nights and the women on Tuesdays. All races will be broadcast live on Super League Triathlon’s YouTube channel.

Each individual race will also award points for the quickest athletes in intermediate sprints and KOMs/QOMs. The team with the most points picks up a cash bonus at the end of the race.

All events will be raced in teams of four athletes, each representing their country, with a few extra guests temporarily switching their allegiances to take part, and will wear bespoke Super League kits created especially for Zwift. The races will not feature power ups.

Each of the five races will be broadcast live as part of a full hour long show, with Will McCloy joined by Chris McCormack and Annie Emerson. There will also be post-race interviews with the athletes on Instagram Live.
