Malta'19 ○ season'19
#Cassandre Beaugrand #Katie Zaferes
Katie Zaferes is ready to bounce back and reclaim the pink leader’s jersey at Super League Triathlon Malta.
The American star, who is the defending Series champion, had the rare taste of defeat as Cassandre Beaugrand beat her into second place at RBC Super League Triathlon Jersey 2019.
There is no doubt that the shortened course played to the Beaugrand’s strengths with high winds causing the cancellation of the bike, and that the class of Zaferes shone through as even when she didn’t win she still finished second.
But a costly slip while trying to exit the water after the first swim and then some unusually lax transitions have given Zaferes plenty to ponder and left her fired up to put things right in Malta on 19-20 October.
She said:
The swim ramp in Jersey affected me quite a bit just because I was never able to connect to start with. That’s what happens and there is no room for mistakes. I had some slow transitions and a bad ramp so I have got to be better for Malta. I love the unpredictability of Super League, I love that it challenges me and I think it makes us better as triathletes all around. The crowd and the atmosphere of all these races is a really fun one and a really supportive one.
