#Superwrap Day 3, Mallorca

The Friday before a Super League Triathlon Championship Weekend is never a dull affair as the athletes all get together for their race briefing followed by the Slot Draw and Heat Allocation.

After the fun of the first few days in Mallorca it was time to focus, and think about the day in hand as the SLT Race Director, Michael Brown, took the athletes through the ins and outs of race weekend.

The slot draw provided some fun as the athletes gave each other the most difficult starting positions possible, followed by the heat allocation which had the whole room in fits of laughter. One of the male heats ended up…slightly…more loaded than the other! This is SLT and you have to roll with the punches.

Once we had all pulled ourselves together the athletes were invited into the Crystal Room at the Rafa Nadal Sports Centre, as we were told there was a special guest making an appearance. The atmosphere in the room was tense, but after a moment or two in strode probably one of the most recognised names in international sport, and the founder of the Centre. Rafa Nadal walked through the crowd, and met with our selection of world class athletes, they presented him with a signed Super League Triathlon (SLT) jersey, and he posed for photos with our superstars. To say this was a highlight of our week is an understatement, and we could not be more grateful not only for the time he spent with us, but also the level of hospitality we have received all week.

Following the excitement we all shipped off for a visit to the Cuevas del Drach in Porto Cristo, four spectacular caves that were first discovered in 1338. Extending to a depth of 25m, and stretching over 4km in length these really are something to behold. Our athletes were taken aback by the spectacle, particularly when the boats arrived with a live musical performance accompanying.

After the cave visit the athletes recced the course in the pouring rain. This experience highlighted the treacherous nature of the corners and the descents giving them a real feel of what was to come.

An early night beckoned before the intensity of tomorrow, a restless night thinking about how you’ll go, or a solid nights slumber, tomorrow will hurt either way.

Super League Triathlon has arrived, and it’s time to race!
