Jonas Schomburg: Lack Of Experience Cost Me At SLT Arena Games

Jonas Schomburg admitted that a lack of experience cost him as the chance to win the first ever SLT Arena Games slipped through his fingers in dramatic fashion.

The German topped the leaderboard after the first two stages of the Triple Mix in Rotterdam, and was in contention for the overall win when the final stage came down to a sprint finish on the bike in Zwift.

However, he slowed when it mattered most and within the matter of just a few seconds dropped from a position where he would take the title to finishing tenth in the third stage and failing to even secure an overall podium place.

He said:

I got caught in the last stage. I think it was a lack of experience.

The sprint in the final meters I was pushing too late. It’s very different from real life and I think lack of experience cost me.

Schomburg opted to run barefoot on the self-powered curved treadmills after seeing Rachel Klamer set the trend in the women’s race. It was a tactic that brought him impressive results.

I was feeling good even on the treadmill running barefoot, the swim was good and it was a good show and I enjoyed it. Running without shoes was fun and I really enjoyed it.

It was great racing. A first for everyone and I think if you do the racing again you know more. It was good fun.
