Can Super League's British Athletes Rule on Home Turf? British Super League Triathlon athletes prepare for races in Leeds and Nottingham

Super League’s British athletes are enjoying a homecoming as they prepare for two weeks of racing in their own back yard.

With a WTS event in Leeds and a mixed relay in Nottingham on successive weekends, it’s a treat for both British triathlon fans and the athletes themselves.

With the countdown on until the start of the Super League championship series, which begins just off the coast of the UK on the Channel Island of Jersey on September 28-29, we take a look at the British Super League stars hoping to shine.

Women
Jodie Stimpson
The highest ranked British woman in the Super League standings for 2018 was Jodie Stimpson. The 30-year-old finished eighth, seventh and sixth across the races in Jersey, Malta and Mallorca and is returning to form on the big stage just at the right time.

Georgia Taylor-Brown
This could be a memorable year for Georgia Taylor-Brown who proved her Super League pedigree with a fantastic fourth place finish in Super League Jersey 2018. Having come fifth in WTS Yokohama this year there is plenty on the line for the 25-year-old back home in Britain.

Vicky Holland
The ITU World champion has plenty to live up to in front of her home fans and will be relishing the mixed relay having also collected two world titles in the short, sharp format which closely aligns to Super League racing. A seventh place finish in Super League Jersey last year proved Vicky Holland has what it takes to compete with the best in any race format.

Sophie Coldwell
As one of the sport’s top swimmers, Sophie Coldwell is used to being at the front of races. She led out of the water at Super League Jersey 2018 on the first stage of the Triple Mix and is tipped to be a big star of the future. The 24-year-old returns to Britain in fine form after capturing the win at the Cagliari World Cup race.

Men
Jonny Brownlee
Leeds is familiar territory for the Yorkshire based Brownlee brothers and Jonny will be one of the star attractions for supporters as he has been in Super League. Jonny nailed down his sport for this year’s Super League championship series by finishing third overall in the standings last time out with two fifth placed finishes, a third, and victory at the final in Singapore.

Alistair Brownlee
Two-time Olympic gold medallist Alistair is a hero in his home country and his exploits with Jonny have made them household names. Alistair has mixed short course racing with some longer stuff of late but is still keeping his options open with the Olympics on the horizon. He has the pedigree to compete in Super League but has also added massively to the events with his commentary on the races captivating audiences around the world.

Alex Yee
The 21-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough year with a podium spot in a WTS race and his blistering run form putting the established guard on red alert. His style and speed makes him perfectly suited to short, sharp formats such as Super League and he proved his potential when he finished tenth on his championships series debut in Jersey 2018.
