GEORGIA TAYLOR-BROWN: I USED TRIATHLON TO ESCAPE LIFE AT HOME

Georgia Taylor-Brown has opened up about the difficulties she has faced away from racing and admitted that she often used triathlon to escape home life.

Taylor-Brown features in the latest episode of Face-to-Face for the Super League Triathlon podcast. In an emotional interview, the Olympic gold medalist and two-time Super League champion revealed some of the challenges she has faced over the past few years.

She said: “Last year was quite hard, and I think it was around this time last year that was difficult after breaking up with my ex-partner. The hardest thing was in Malibu when everything unraveled. Up until that point, I had kind of held it together, and there were ongoing things over the years with Josh being an alcoholic and having a lot of different mental health issues.

“I think I kind of used triathlon to escape home life at times. It worked for a while, and it’s like the injury; you go well for a while, and then you know it’s going to break down and get you. It was hard because I was trying to hide it from everyone else, but there was only so long I could do that before I actually did need help from people.

“What I have realised is that I felt bad asking other people for help because you don’t want to put that burden on someone else. I got to a point where I did need help and needed to get out of this.”

The two-time Super League Triathlon Champion also discusses her unprecedented success at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, a near career-ending injury she almost suffered while at university in 2014 and her relationship with French triathlete and fellow two-time SLT champion, Vincent Luis.
