On the weekend of 3-4 August 2019, Super League Triathlon (SLT) is heading to Canada’s treasure trove of a capital city, Ottawa, for the Canadian leg of our Qualifier Series. The event weekend will be pumping as the one million strong population turn out in force to experience the thrill of SLT.
Find out what’s the score with Ottawa, what makes it different, and why you should be a part of Super League!
The swim element of our weekend is in the historic UNESCO Rideau Canal, a 19th-century construction that covers 202km. Winding through the heart of Ottawa, it connects into the Ottawa River through the dramatically stepped locks next to Parliament Hill. In summer, this stretch of water is filled with boaters, but come winter it becomes the world’s longest (7.8km) naturally frozen skating rink!
The Ottawa Jail Hostel is a unique opportunity to spend a night in what used to be a fully functioning jail! When it closed in 1972, it was purchased by Hostelling International who converted it leaving much of the original structure intact.
The top floor, which served as the jail’s death row, has been restored to its original condition and daily tours are conducted… that is if you have the stomach for it!
Nearly half of the population in Ottawa is under the age of 35 – making it one of the youngest cities in Canada. This energetic culture has resulted in the city hosting 35 major festivals each year! The Canadian Tulip Festival, held every May, is one of the most famous!
Ottawa has more scientists, engineers, and PhD’s per capita out of every city in Canada. It also houses The Canadian Museum of History, which is the most visited museum in the country!
This fascinating, historic, educational, and beautiful city will fill your trip with delights and make you want to plan your return as soon as you’ve left.
When you’re at a Super League event weekend, everything is within touching distance. In Ottawa all things SLT will be situated in the world-class Lansdowne Park making it easier than ever to enjoy all of the onsite activities.
Situated right in the heart of the city, it houses stadiums, green spaces, restaurants, and bars. You’ll have everything you could possibly want right at your fingertips as the world class racing unfolds.
With Ottawa as a backdrop, the Super League event weekend has Age Group competition, professional Qualifiers, and a host of entertainment for the whole family. You can race and cheer as you absorb everything we have to offer; a Super League weekend is like nothing you have experienced before.
