Macca’s Predictions: Yee or Wilde? GTB Or Beaugrand? Is It Too Tough To Call?

Super League Munich 2021

It’s almost go time for the Super League Triathlon 2022 Championship Series with the stars of the sport gathering in London full of nerves for the first race.

There are some huge head-to-head battles to come on the cobblestones of West India Quay, and it would take a brave man to call them.

That’s why we called upon triathlon legend and Bahrain Victorious Scorpions boss Chris McCormack to give us his verdict.

Men: yee and wilde to resume battle

As the manager of the Scorpions we will suffer with the loss of Vincent Luis and now Henri Schoeman after his crash, so from a strategic point of view we are reassessing.

In terms of this race, I am looking at Hayden Wilde and Alex Yee.

They were fantastic last year and this year they have been the form athletes all season.

A lot depends on how the Short Chutes are allocated by the managers but I think look for Yee and Wilde at the top end and I think Matt Hauser can be right in there in the top three.

  1. Alex Yee
  2. Hayden Wilde
  3. Matt Hauser

women: impossible to call winner until race day

The Scorpions have a much stronger team on the women’s side so looking through our lens with Georgia Taylor-Brown and Cassandre Beaugrand there is a lot to be excited about.

Cassandre is in such sizzling form this year, much better than last year, so we need to decide how best to utilise her, and whether she goes for the win is something we will look at on a race-by-race basis.

I think the London course really suits her so I expect the Scorpions to be all over this race with one of the two of them winning it, and that will be a management in-race call.

I expect them both to be up the front and dominate the show with their big swims and the ability to work together.
Beth Potter is the other athlete to round out the podium and the decisions team management makes and who earns those Short Chutes will be crucial.

  1. Georgia Taylor-Brown
  2. Cassandre Beaugrand
  3. Beth Potter
