Georgia Taylor-Brown said she “left nothing in the tank” to defend her Super League Triathlon Championship Series title and hailed SLT as “family.”

The British Olympic and Commonwealth mixed relay gold medallist had to be at her very best to hold off the charge from Taylor Spivey over five gruelling races, including a remarkable Grand Finale in NEOM where they were shoulder to shoulder until the final run of the Series.

At that stage Taylor-Brown put on the afterburners to leave Spivey behind and overtake Sophie Coldwell to claim not only the race win but also the title.

She said: “I kept my eye on Taylor all day and did what I needed to do and put a surge in on the final run and managed to break away and held her off. It was tactical but there was nothing left in the tank.

“I think we both enjoyed the battle for the past five races and however many weeks.

“We have enjoyed it. You don’t feel the nerves as much, it’s excitement and enjoyment and everyone looking out for each other. We have pushed each other to the very end.”

Taylor-Brown was also part of the Bahrain Victorious Scorpions, who secured the Teams title and is also an integral part of the travelling Super League family which creates a unique environment for the athletes.

“It’s a team event, the whole Super League thing,” said Taylor-Brown. “It’s so different to a World Triathlon race where you just stay with British Triathlon or whatever federation you are in so it’s so nice to be at events where we get to know every athlete.

“Super League is a great little family and I have really enjoyed my time again.

“It’s been hard but it is pretty special to finish it in a new city in Saudi Arabia and I am really excited for the future of this place.”
