Super League Ottawa: The Final Battle

One last chance. That’s what the pros were fighting for in Sunday’s Eliminator race at Super League Ottawa, in a last bid to secure their golden tickets to the Super League Triathlon Championship Series taking place in Jersey on 28-29 September.

The brutal format of the Eliminator round is a true survival of the fittest as the three-stage swim-bike-run, only broken up with ten minutes between each set, eliminates any athlete who falls 90 second behind.

In the men’s race, it was Canadian Longcroft-Harris who led out of the water in the first and second stages, swiftly followed by Australian Ryan Bailie, with a double-stage win from Jamie Price. With some incredibly fast and aggressive performances, the men fought it out on the last stage, resulting in a podium aligned from day one’s racing. Ryan Bailie took the top spot, followed by Aiden Longcroft-Harris and Michael Arishita, all of who have secured their golden tickets to the Championship.

For the women, Australian Charlotte McShane led Nicole Van Der Kaay and Canada’s Desirae Ridenour throughout the first stage and the trio stayed up front until a fight for the stage two win saw Canadian Samantha Klus through the tape first. The third stage proved to be even more dynamic, with Rebeccah Wassner leading out of the swim before McShane dominated again on the bike. As the pro women hit the final run, with Van Der Kaay hot on McShane’s heels, it was a case of leaving everything out there on the course to get to that finish line. Charlotte McShane took the win followed by Nicole Van Der Kaay and Megan Foley rounded off the podium and the golden ticket.
