It’s the closest Super League Triathlon Championship Series ever – and five men head into Sunday’s finale in Malibu with a mathematical possibility of taking the title.

Jonny Brownlee leads the way but with just four points separating the top four, and Vasco Vilaca tucked behind in fifth, there is still everything to play.

The additions of Olympic gold medalist and experienced Super League athlete Kristian Blummentfelt as well as Gustav Iden fresh off of winning his second Ironman 70.3 World Championship add extra spice to the mix.

Whether they will shake things up, help or hinder anyone’s chances remains to be seen.

But with extra points on offer with 20 for the win, everything is on the line.

So what would it take for Jonny Brownlee, Hayden Wilde, Alex Yee, Vincent Luis or Vasco Vilaca to win?
We have crunched the numbers to give you the ultimate guide to the most thrilling finale in triathlon.

For Jonathan Brownlee to win:

  • Basically, he needs to beat Wilde and Yee, can be no more than one place behind Luis and no more than three places behind Vilaca
  • If he finishes behind Wilde or Yee, they will overtake him
  • If Luis wins, then Brownlee must finish second to win the title. Third won’t be enough as they’d finish on equal points and priority goes to the athlete finishing ahead in the final race
  • If Vilaca wins, Brownlee needs to be fourth or above, with neither Wilde or Yee ahead of him, and Luis no more than one place ahead

For Vincent Luis to win:

  • He needs to beat Brownlee and Wilde by two spots, and finish ahead of Yee

For Hayden Wilde to win:

For Alex Yee to win:

For Vasco Vilaca to win:

  • He needs to, realistically speaking, win with Brownlee and Wilde finishing fifth or below, Yee fourth or below and Luis third or below
