Super League Triathlon is back in Munich this weekend with some huge battles set to play out at the stunning Olympiapark.

With the first race done and the nerves settled, it’s crucial to be in position come the end of Round 2 heading to Malibu.

With a new format for Munich, a blockbuster crowd expected and some massive head-to-head battles, there is so much to be excited about. Here’s everything you need to know.

Hauser in pursuit of Wilde

After the misfortune of his incorrect penalty in London, Matt Hauser is a man on a mission in Munich.

He believes he would have beaten Hayden Wilde in London without it, but nobody can be sure of that. Munich is his chance to prove it.

For his part, Wilde looked in much better shape than he had described before the event following his recent illness, and only expects to grow stronger as the Series goes on.

This could be a race to remember.

Ed Sheeran disrupts the course

British star Ed Sheeran is playing three sold-out nights at the Olympic Stadium in Munich over the course of the weekend, including Super League Sunday.

Nice for some of the athletes, who have treated themselves to tickets to soak in some post-race music, but harder for the course.

There are not major changes required to accommodate the gigs, but the bike route will be different to 2021.

It means familiarisation is a key moment, even for those athletes who have raced here before, including the recent European Championships.

Can GTB top the podium?

Last year it was Jess Learmonth, and latterly Flora Duffy, that prevented Georgia Taylor-Brown from getting the sweet taste of victory, this year it started with Cassandre Beaugrand assuming the role of party spoiler.

Taylor-Brown may be the defending Championship Series title holder, but she is desperate to post some race wins.

Beaugrand will be missing in Malibu, which makes Taylor-Brown favourite for that race, but she will want to beat a full field. And that means finishing ahead of Beaugrand. Will Munich be the race?

Enduro down the hill

Munich sees the first outing for the Enduro in 2022. Super League’s most brutal race format, three continuous rounds of swim-bike-run, pushes the athletes to their physical limits.

Add to that the Munich course which contains two runs down the hill into the water, and there is a lot going through the minds of the athletes.

Who can catch the Scorpions?

Bahrain Victorious Scorpions were dominant in the Team Leaderboard in Round 1, powered by their stellar female line-up.

They look far more vulnerable in the men’s, but were tactically very astute in London.

The other Team Managers will have been looking and learning from their tactics, questioning whether they made the correct calls in the heat of battle and figuring out what they need to do in Munich.
