Super League Triathlon For The First Time In Malta

World’s best professional triathletes will compete in Malta’s Championship Series event in October

For the first time ever, Malta will play host to several world leading triathletes during the new season of the Super League Triathlon (SLT). The organisers of this massive worldwide triathlon event have been holding talks with the Maltese authorities for the past year to include Malta for the first time in the SLT Championship Series. Super League Triathlon and Malta Tourism Authority are now delighted to announce that Super League Malta will be held on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 October 2018.

Michael D’hulst, co-founder and CEO of SLT, said:

“There’s a reason why Malta was selected as a filming location for the most popular TV show of all time, Game of Thrones. The historical Mediterranean island is surrounded by hundreds of miles of water and is home to one of the oldest prehistoric temples in the world. From its 4,000-year-old “silent city” Mdina to its colourful and picturesque coastal towns, Malta is a no-brainer for what’s set to be an action-packed October event.”

Super League Triathlon is a closed series where the world’s best female and male professional triathletes compete under contract for a prize purse of $1.5 million, which will be awarded to the overall champion in the final SLT event in Australia, 23-24 March 2019. Like all SLT events, Super League Malta will deliver game-changing formats – mixing up long and short course athletes – in a series of fast-paced events with unpredictable outcomes that culminate in the crowning of the best and most versatile male and female triathletes in the world. This is a great event for families and sports enthusiasts who can expect to see some of the fastest and most intense racing triathlon fans have ever seen from the sport’s most established athletes.

Xandru Grech, who was one of the finest middle-distance runners Malta has ever produced as underlined by the national records he set in 1995 over the 800m and 1,500m distances, forms part of Malta’s organizing team and he is handling the commercial aspect. Joe Micallef is coordinating the operational part of Malta’s Championship series.
