Holland Ready To Share Pain With Her Friends

Vicky Holland can’t wait to have another crack at RBC Super League Triathlon Jersey – and inflict some pain on her friends.

The 2018 Olympic bronze medallist and last year’s ITU World Triathlon Series champion has been named as a Wildcard for Super League’s opening event of the season in Jersey on 28-29 September.

Holland will be joined by two other British female Wildcards in the shape of Georgia Taylor-Brown and Sophie Coldwell but insists they will put their friendships to one side as they look to hurt each other in search of glory.

“I’m delighted to have a Wildcard for 2019 and have another go at Super League Triathlon,” said Holland.

“I’ve attended three races now but only once as a competing athlete and the atmosphere and fast racing is both electric and contagious.

“Last year I found the format a massive shock to the system and it took me a while to get going – that’s something you can’t really afford in this format of racing so I’ll look to improve on that this year.

“Last year I had a really poor first stage but by day two I was finding my groove so hopefully this year I will hit the ground running.

“It’s great that both Georgia and Sophie are racing – whilst we are competitors, we are also teammates and friends so I’m sure we will have a lot of fun out there inflicting pain on one another!”

Holland comes into Jersey on the back of a solid season of WTS racing but she was unable to defend her title as reigning Super League champion Katie Zaferes lifted the trophy.

Super League will be testing for the 33-year-old but she is fully committed to giving it her best.

“The distances are obviously very different to Olympic distance racing with the orders mixed up and multiple races with short recovery being a new element,” reflected Holland.

“Even considerations such as how best to set up a transition and whether to carry your swim hat and goggles when the swim isn’t the first leg are new but hopefully second time around I will be better prepared.

“Tactics are really important in SLT so I’ll aim to use my head as well as my fitness to get a good result.”
