Macca’s Predictions: Will The RTP Sharks Have Too Much Bite In Home Town Race?

Slt23 Maccaspredictions169v2 (1)

There is plenty of intrigue and opportunity knocking as Super League Triathlon’s fifth anniversary Championship Series gets underway in London on Sunday.

With a plethora of exciting debutants, some more experienced heads, the two winners of the Paris Olympic Test event on the start line fresh off their momentous wins, a few absences, and brand new Team dynamics, it is hard to be sure how this will play out.

Who would be brave enough to try and call it? Probably only triathlon legend Chris McCormack.

men

It looks to me like it will be an all-Sharks affair this weekend in London.

I will go with Alex Yee after that big win in Paris. I think Jonny Brownlee and Henri Schoeman have big swims and their experience will help them.

I would throw in Kenji Nener as a wildcard and also Shachar Sagiv who showed some of what he can do last year, and again the Super League experience is very useful to them both.

Obviously there are some athletes missing on the men’s side, but being the Enduro it depends so much on the set up, which is why I think the experience is so key.

women

You can’t go past Beth Potter for the win. The Sharks team is stacked with English talent.

I will go out on a limb and say that Sophie Coldwell will be on the podium as well. She likes this tight, aggressive racing, and the Enduro format will suit her. Her strong swim off the blocks will set her up.

After that it’s a wide open affair. I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if we see a clean sweep for the Sharks with Kate Waugh in there, but I feel Taylor Spivey may get the better of her. She was second in the Series last year, and I think she will have a point to prove after her race in Paris, which was probably a bit below what she would have hoped for.

Looking elsewhere, there’s so much new talent in Super League for the first time so the form guide is not much use, especially heading into the Enduro, which is the toughest of all the formats.

  2. Sophie Coldwell
  3. Taylor Spivey

teams

You can’t look past the Sharks in London with their loaded English team and with other teams having had to take a few blows in the build-up.

For Bahrain Victorious we would be happy with getting on the podium this weekend with the depletion of the team through injury and absence, and then we will build through that as the Series goes on. I expect something very different from Toulouse onwards.

Despite them being called underdogs, I actually think this weekend is a big chance for the RTS Warriors to perform strongly.
