Kenji Nener Declares Himself Fit To Race After Injury Drama

Familiarization Superleague Triathlon Grand Final Neom (bz) 2022 193

Kenji Nener has declared himself fit to race in the Super League Triathlon Grand Finale in NEOM after his dramatic race eve injury.

The Japanese star had to be carried out of the water and stretchered to the medical tent after standing on coral running into the sea during familiarisation.

Nener had the wound cleaned and dressed for a second time when arriving back at the Athlete Village and the injury was checked again this morning.

Nener is fourth in the Overall Leaderboard, and knows a good performance could see him challenge Tayler Reid, who is five points ahead of him, for a podium spot.

After testing his ability to run pre-race, he said: “I am fit to race and looking forward to it. It was a big shock when I stood on it, as I had been in several times before with no problems, and nobody else had an issue, so it was just bad luck. Unfortunately for me I was practicing going in full gas.

“It’s a big race for me and this has been a big Series and I will give it my all out there and see how it goes.”
