All eyes will be on Super League Triathlon’s swim, bike and run stars as they take centre stage in the Mixed Relay at the Tokyo test event.
Some 14 athletes who are already qualified for Super League’s 2019 Championship Series are expected on the start line, with another 14 who have appeared in the past and could yet bag Wildcards for this year joining them.
The Olympic test event has already had its fair share of drama, controversy and glory, with Super League athletes right in the midst of it all.
But now is the time for teamwork as four athletes per nation each race a 300-metre swim, 7.4km bike and 2km run.
The Mixed Relay format is the most similar to Super League due to its short and sharp nature that ensures full gas racing throughout, and is the perfect tune-up for our athletes with just over a month until the season opener in Jersey on September 28-29.
The most prolific representation of Super League stars comes in the French team where both women – Cassandre Beaugrand and Leonie Periault – are qualified for 2019, while both men – Pierre Le Corre and Dorian Connix – are past racers.

South Africa have two of Super League’s biggest hitters in Richard Murray, who was almost unbeatable in the early iterations of SLT, and Henri Schoeman, last year’s male runner-up.
For Australia, Ranked Athlete Ashleigh Gentle is joined by Jacob Birtwhistle and Matt Hauser, who both have Super League experience, while neighbours New Zealand boast Hayden Wilde, one of SLT’s young stars.
There are a couple of Qualifiers for the 2019 Championship Series toeing the line. Desirae Ridenour, who is joined for Canada by top ten athlete Matt Sharpe, won her Golden Ticket in Ottawa while Hungary’s Zsanett Bragmayer came through in Poznan.
Great Britain boast Super League experience via Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee, Germany have Laura Lindemann and last season’s ninth placed man Jonas Schomburg, the Netherlands have 2018’s female runner-up Rachel Klamer and former SLT man Jorik Van Egdom while Belgium line up with Claire Michel, who started two times in 2018, and Marten Van Riel who finished fourth in Mallorca.
Previous Super League athletes also feature for Japan (Jumpei Furuya, Yuko Takahashi), Portugal (Joao Pereira) and Austria (Alois Knabl).
