Arena Games Triathlon Powered by Zwift returns to Singapore after a hugely successful debut in 2022 as the greatest athletes in the world battle it out for the chance to be crowned the Triathlon Esports World Champion thanks to Super League’s unique partnership with World Triathlon.

Each Arena Games Triathlon regular Series event is competed over heats and a final. Heats will see two stages of swim-bike-run, while, come the final, the fastest 10 pros of the day will race Super League’s unique Arena Games Triathlon format to decide a victor. That means 3 short, sharp and unpredictable stages that all feature swim, bike and run. There is no respite for the athletes, and an added challenge is that the order of the disciplines is shuffled each time. A pursuit style start is adopted for the final stage each time they race.  The swim (200m) takes place in an Olympic sized pool, and the bike (4km), and run (1km), legs on static equipment with the racing realised in the virtual world of Zwift, the world’s leading online training and racing platform. This provides real-time, detailed data insights, allowing you to get closer than ever before to the competitors.

The SLT Arena Games was born during the COVID- 19 pandemic, and has gone from strength to strength, drawing a huge audience thanks to its innovative and exciting indoor race concept. With Arena Games Triathlon powered by Zwift, Super League Triathlon and World Triathlon have taken this concept to the next level. In 2023, the Arena Games Triathlon Championship Series will be held across four events, in four iconic cities. At the Grand Finale, held in London, the overall winners of the series will be named the new Esports Triathlon World Champions.

The 200m swim legs will take place in an Olympic sized pool while the 4km bike and 1km run disciplines are completed on smart trainers and self-powered curved treadmills with the power and speed of the athletes turned into a virtual race via Zwift’s online platform. There is a couple of minutes break between the three stages, each starting at a set time. That will reward those that finish quickest by giving them a longer rest period. The results of the three individual stages will combine to determine the overall winner.

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO ARENA GAMES TRIATHLON POWERED BY ZWIFT SINGAPORE

What is Arena Games Triathlon Powered by Zwift?

Arena Games Triathlon Powered by Zwift is an innovative concept that blends in real life and virtual racing to deliver a new level of the immersive viewing experience.  The format took the triathlon world by storm with the debut of the SLT Arena Games in Rotterdam 2020 before successful follow-up events in London and Rotterdam in 2021. Then, in partnership with World Triathlon, it developed into a World Championship Series format for 2022, with Arena Games Triathlon Powered by Zwift  which went on to crown the world’s first esports triathlon World Champions.

Now, Arena Games Triathlon Powered by Zwift is back, bigger and better than ever before, with a 4 event series spread across 3 continents in 2023. With further innovations, more live data, and in your face cameras, these events will get closer to the athletes than ever before.

When and where will the Arena Games Triathlon World Championship Series Powered by Zwift 2023 take place?

In 2023, the Arena Games Triathlon World Championship Series powered by Zwift series will take place in 4 iconic locations.

February 25, 2023: Montreal, Canada

March 12, 2023: Sursee, Switzerland

March 25, 2023: Singapore

April 8, 2023: London, UK, Grand Finale

What is the concept?

Arena Games Triathlon powered by Zwift is an amalgamation of real-life and virtual racing. It provides an immersive viewing experience that allows fans to get up close and personal with the best triathletes in the world and enjoy live data.

The swim leg takes place in an Olympic sized pool, or in Singapore open water, while the bike and run disciplines are completed on smart trainers and self-powered curved treadmills with the power and speed of the athletes turned into a visual race via Zwift’s online platform.

The TV broadcast brings together the best of all these elements to produce a captivating event, with in-your-face cameras bringing you closer than ever to the athletes and an enclosed environment showing their effort and raw suffering like never before.

How does the Arena Games Triathlon World Championship Series powered by Zwift work?

The Championship Series events will consist of both heats and finals. At each event athletes will need to qualify for the final race via a heat which will consist of 2 Stages (Swim – Bike – Run / Swim – Bike – Run). The second stage will be held in a pursuit format. Athletes will start in reverse order of their result in stage 1. The athlete with the fastest time will start first, every other athlete will follow with a time gap as per the result of stage 1.

Just 8-10 athletes from the heats (venue dependant) will then progress to the final. The final will consist of 3 Stages over Super League’s unique Arena Games Triathlon format (Swim – Bike – Run // Run – Bike – Swim // Swim – Bike – Run).

The competition times for each athlete will be added from the 1st and the 2nd stage. Pursuit starts for the last stage based on the time difference accumulated across the first two stages. The athlete with the fastest time, will start first.

The Championship Finals will follow a similar format but with a two-stage repechage offering an extra route to the big finale: a three-stage battle for the 30 athletes who make it onto the start lists.

For more information on formats please visit the Formats section.

How does the point scoring work?

The World Champions will be decided via a points system combining the results of the final in London plus each athlete’s best result at one additional Arena Games event. The results also contribute to World Triathlon’s world rankings.

The Series race winners will each receive 250 points, the Championship Finals winners 500 points, decreasing by 7.5% for each position thereafter. The Arena Games Triathlon World Champions will be the man and woman with the highest combined score from the Finals and one Series event.

Who is racing?

Official start lists for the Arena Games Triathlon powered by Zwift events will be announced in the run-up to each event.

There will be between 16-20 female athletes and 16-20 male athletes racing the events in Montreal, Sursee and Singapore. The Finals, in London,  will see that number grow to 30 female and 30 male athletes.

Is there prize money?

Yes, the Pros will be racing for cash to add extra incentive to race at full throttle throughout. However, there is not only money at stake, the Arena Games Triathlon Powered by Zwift will also crown the world’s first triathlon esports World Champions in 2023.

The winners of the Series events will get $5,000, while for the Finals it is $7,500. All athletes reaching the final of any event will earn prize money.

In addition, the World Champions will also receive $8,000 on top of what was earned in the races, with $6,000 going to the overall second-placed athletes and $4,000 overall third.
