Betting Odds: Sharks Favourites As Eagles Fall With Big Prices On Outsiders

Michelle Dillon’s SLT Sharks have been named as the bookies’ favourite to take the title this year with 2021 winners the SLT Eagles a whopping 4-1 to defend their crown.

The Sharks, who produced a solid third place finish despite being much maligned in 2021, boast both Beth Potter and Hayden Wilde in their ranks with Skybet making them 2-1 to land the Teams Leaderboard across this year’s five-event Championship Series.

The Fan Team, the SLT Cheetahs, are second favourite at 3-1 after what was widely considered to be a hugely successful draft for the team owners. The absence of Vincent Luis at the start of the Series as well as injury to Henri Schoeman has hit the Bahrain Victorious Scorpions who are 7-2, while Tim Don’s defending champions are 4-1. The SLT Rhinos are rank outsiders at 11-2.

The race for the Individual Leaderboard titles is predictably dominated by Georgia Taylor-Brown (1-2) and Hayden Wilde (4-11).

In the men’s, Jonny Brownlee is priced second favourite with Skybet at 7-2, with Vasco Vilaca (6-1), Matt Hauser (7-1) and Tyler Mislawchuk (8-1) the closest challengers. Many people’s dark horse to be a threat this year, Max Stapley, is available at a tempting 50-1.

In the women’s, Beth Potter is understandably the closest rival to Taylor-Brown at 2-1. Cassandre Beaugrand is the 6-1 third favourite despite the fact she will only race in four events with Taylor Spivey 8-1 and Sophie Coldwell 12-1.

Those wishing for a romantic end to Non Stanford’s career can back the Welsh star at 16-1 to sign off for retirement with an SLT Championship Series title to add to her collection.
