Aaron Royle says Team Australia are going to keep hold of their Super League Triathlon eSports Cycling Series winnings until they can enjoy a celebration together.

Australia held on to top spot in the final race on Zwift to end the three event Series three seconds clear of Great Britain at the top of the General Classification leaderboard and land themselves a $4,000 cash prize.

Team leader Aaron Royle helped to mastermind the strategy for their victory and is already looking forward to celebrating the win with his teammates.

He said:

We will save it for a time when we can all get together and do a Super League race.

I’ve loved it to be fair. The night before all of us boys are chatting and going through the race strategy and it’s something we are missing at the minute with that rivalry with each other.

I have been doing two a week but this one with the team has added that camaraderie with the boys.

It has been hugely helpful and it’s not time zone friendly for us but I think it’s worth getting up and smashing ourselves in the morning and getting those endorphins going that you don’t actually have at this time. It feels strange to be almost July and not to have done a real race this year, so this is filling that void.

Great Britain took the points win in two of the events compared to one for Australia, but Royle’s tactics paid dividends as they took home the main prize after a tough final race on the Watopia course.

He admitted:

That was the toughest one of the lot.

At the very least we wanted to make the Brits work for the sprint points. We didn’t want to make it easy for them because then at least it would make them tired for the finish.

We wanted to go for the sprint points but the main aim was the GC which we did.

I was a little bit upset last week that Super League wrote up that the Brits took it but I think we actually took it with the overall but it was fun and friendly banter between the two.

Thanks Super League for giving us this opportunity.
